Tony - Tutor Manager

Tony-tutor managerTony qualified as a chartered accountant in London with KPMG before moving into teaching the CA qualification to PWC, EY, Deloitte and KPMG graduates. Prior to KPMG, he spent an enviable few years teaching sailing on an island from a beach in the Mediterranean.

What he enjoys the most about his role is the problem solving, trying to come up with constant improvements for the students learning environment and he thrives on giving high quality feedback for students. The most satisfactory aspect of his role is watching the tutor team work their socks off and consistently delivering an outstanding level of helpful and supportive feedback to every student that passes through the Career Academy.

Tony grew up in London and spent most of his youth sailing on the South Coast of the UK, he’s looking to start sailing the 12ft skiffs in Auckland harbour. He wants to improve on his surfing and has recently started open water swimming which is pretty apt given his poor surfing ability.

Jessie - Academic Manager & Xero expert

Jessie is a Chartered Accountant and one of life's natural engineers. If something's broken, she'll fix it. This strong personality trait was well-honed during her time with Xero, and now she's always looking for ways to improve processes for staff and students alike*. This not only helps people understand their learning concepts and have a positive experience with their studies, but provides Jessie with tremendous job satisfaction.

Her best piece of advice to anyone considering a course with The Career Academy? "That's a great idea! Online learning means you can work at your own pace around work and life commitments. Our tutors are genuinely here to help; if you need a hand, all you have to do is ask."

*(She's also not averse to dismantling her own washing machine to find and fix a problem!)

Tracey - Accounting, Bookkeeping & AdministrationTracey

Tracey is a people person with impressive juggling skills. Like many of The Career Academy's students, she's a working mum balancing her job and her family.

In her previous role as an office manager at one of Lion Nathan's Auckland establishments for seven years, she was responsible for all manner of financial duties (incl. payroll, and accounts payable & receivable.) She later backed up these skills with a Bachelor of Business from Massey.

Although she's a proficient "number cruncher" it's working with her students which Tracey enjoys the most. Seeing when a student really "gets it," when their confidence soars or when they're able to secure that new role – these are things that she loves.

Tracey spends her time away from work with a strong focus on family and friends.  She enjoys spending time preparing special family events such as birthday, Hallowe'en and other holiday parties, where creating elaborate decorations and party cakes from scratch allows her to explore her artistic side.

 Angela - Administration Tutor

Ange admin tutorAnge is The Career Academy's resident Francophile. She attends Auckland's Alliance Française French Film Festival every year, and her favourite movie of all time is Amélie (for its quirkiness and humour.) She loves to travel and, yes, France is one of her best-loved destinations, along with Italy and Spain.

Her career history has strong roots in the medical sector, having worked as a medical receptionist, PA to a private surgeon and administrator at a major Auckland Hospital. She also has solid tutoring experience with both a private company and at Carrington Technical Institute (now Unitec Institute of Technology.)

Ange enjoys the variety of her role at The Career Academy and being part of a growing, fast-paced business, but says that the best part of her job is reading the wonderful feedback from happy students. She always encourages her students to go the extra mile. "Study the course material in depth, even do additional research for yourself. The more effort you put in, the more you will benefit."

Sarah - Accounting, Bookkeeping & Tax

sarah-bookkeeping tutorSarah is a great example of someone who's successfully switched careers – something which many of The Career Academy's students are considering themselves.

She was originally a colour technician and hairdresser with well-known brands such as Servilles. However as she weighed up the responsibility of family life, she decided to go after a more stable job. Sarah had been good at maths at school, so she opted for a BCom in Accounting (Commercial Law major.) She is currently completing the Chartered Accountants Program and the National Certificate in Adult Education & Training.

Now she uses her own experiences to help our students make a difference in their own lives, encouraging them to consider their own needs and goals before choosing from the wide range of courses on offer.

Swayam - Accounting, Bookkeeping & Admin

Swayam-Course-tutorSwayam and his family moved to NZ from Mumbai in 2000. He graduated from Auckland University in 2014 with a BCom in Accounting & Finance, and worked in bookkeeping and accounting roles before joining The Career Academy. He's currently studying for his Chartered Accountant qualification. This means he has a real understanding of the potential challenges facing our students, and is well-placed to help them overcome any tricky areas.

However, beneath Swayam's quiet, reserved accountant's exterior lurks the heart and soul of a true adrenalin junkie! He enjoys bungy jumping, rock climbing, sky jumping and jet boating. Next on his wish list is a 40-50 metre deep sea dive (in New Zealand's beautiful waters, of course.) Who ever said that accountants were boring..?

Matt - Accountant and Expert Tutor

Matt accounting tutorMatt's Bachelor of Commerce (in accounting and commercial law) is well supported by his previous employment in mechanical engineering. This gave him practical knowledge of sales and admin, hands on experience of running shop floor machinery, and also some great insight into the processes and procurement.

As one of our tutors, Matt relishes the hectic but friendly, focused but supportive atmosphere at The Career Academy. "It's a great place to gain new, marketable skills, and there's a dedicated crew of enthusiastic tutors to support and guide you every step of the way." He also appreciates sharing ideas with and gaining fresh perspectives from his colleagues and students.

When his working day is done, Matt enjoys beating his older brother, Aaron, at table tennis. He's also in a 5-a-side indoor football team, and is an avid supporter of Arsenal FC. Matt likes doodling on the guitar; Stevie Ray Vaughan is his favourite guitarist.

At the same time, he's earned his Bachelor of Commerce (in accounting and commercial law) and is presently studying for his Masters of Business (in accounting) at AUT.

Additionally, Sean aims to read at least one book every week. He enjoys autobiographies, and found Arnold Schwarzenegger's story especially inspiring. In fact, it fired him up to visit the gym more regularly! That's pretty much Sean's philosophy for his students too: "Being motivated and learning something new is the best thing in life. Whatever you're passionate about – fitness & nutrition, photography, accounting – choose a course in that subject. Work really hard at it and, with the support of your tutor at The Career Academy, you'll reach your goal with ease."
